Well, the job hunt still continues…

I received a call back about a job at the National Institute of Health Policy at the University of St. Thomas. It really would have been a great job for a number of reasons, including that it’s only a few blocks away from my apartment. I declined to pursue the job because the NIHP chair is a former US Senator that was nearly expelled from Senate and also lost his license to practice law due to unethical conduct. I’ve also applied for the same job Cindy has at Target, but even if I did get that it wouldn’t start until January (and I do think it is a long shot for me to get the job). I never thought finding a somewhat decent job with a UW degree would be this difficult.

Last night we went out to dinner at King and I Thai next to our apartment with one of Cindy’s friends she met at work and her boyfriend. It had a nice ambience and the food was great. This weekend we’re playing Michigan at Camp Randall at 5pm and I’m going to the game. It will be a welcome change of pace from sitting around the apartment/looking for jobs.

Well, it’s been five weeks since I’ve been here in Minneapolis and I’m still unemployed. It did take a week to get the apartment set up and then I was gone for about six days for Labor Day, so I guess really I’ve only been looking for three weeks. I applied for a lot of jobs at the end of last week after returning from my Labor Day weekend trip home so I’m going to wait and see what happens this week and if I still don’t have anything lined up it looks like it’s off to Menard’s or Best Buy.

My Labor Day weekend was pretty good. We left on Thursday morning and went to the cabin for the night. We made it to Madison at about 5pm on Friday, dumped our stuff at our Best Western, and headed downtown to hang out with my brother and some friends. On Saturday we had tickets for the football game (courtesy of Mr. and Mrs. Bush) and it was a very different experience than what I’m used to, which is the student section. Anyway, I think the final score of the game was 56-49, with Wisconsin coming out on top over Bowling Green. On a side note, this past Saturday we went to a restaurant/bar close to our apartment to watch the Badgers destroy Temple 65-0. It was fun because there were quite a few other Wisconsin fans watching the game. On Sunday it was off to my cousin’s wedding at Geneva National. All I can say is that Geneva National is probably one of the best places to have a wedding in southeastern Wisconsin.

Cindy started her job at Target today and she says so far so good. Make sure to wish her luck!
